Ministries -> Children's Ministry
Children know they have a special place at the San Leandro Church of
Christ. Each week we call them up on stage for a Children’s Sermon
that presents the lesson of the morning at their level and in a
manner that is fun for them. They participate in the first 45
minutes of corporate worship and feel that they are an important
part of congregational worship and congregational life. The first
Sunday of the month the children get the chance to recite their
memory work in front of the congregation and earn recognition and
rewards. Sunday morning classes at the 9:30 a.m. hour are clustered
in groupings of 2-3 grades so that each child can learn at his/her
level and interact with peers of a similar age. Children are
dismissed to enjoy their own special classes at sermon time during
Sunday morning worship.
From time to time we offer family fun activities like day trips to
the snow, Santa Cruz beach boardwalk or an outing to the tide pools.
We send workers and kids each summer to Adventure Camp, a 6-day
Christian camp for 2nd-5th graders in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Children work alongside adults in our service projects learning
compassion for the needy and the aged. Every Easter weekend our
3rd-12th graders participate in the “Leadership Training for Christ”
conference in San Jose where students display their talents in areas
such as drama, singing, art, puppets, Bible reading, etc. Children
often have the chance to perform a drama or sing during special
services such as the ones done at Christmas and Easter. We set aside
two Sundays in April as our “Children’s Emphasis” Sundays. We talk
about the special ministry we have to kids and the children get to
do many of the worship service duties such as announcements, prayer,
Bible reading, serving communion, etc.
